Was I aware of how much work will this mask involve? No! A being with a stubborn mind who always thinks she "can do it", challenging herself to get out of the comfort zone.
So let's talk for a bit about this loooong process of moulding, shall we?
Sculpting is a fascinating art that has always impressed me. I haven't done any serious sculptures before, so I've definitely learnt a lot by challenging myself to embrace this process.
To create the Minotaur I began with constructing a basic armature, or skeleton for the mask using aluminium foil. This armature serves as the underlying structure for the mask and provides a framework for the clay to adhere to. Once the armature is in place, I've added layers of oil-based NSP clay to the surface, carefully moulding and shaping the features of the Minotaur mask as they go.
This process requires a high degree of skill and patience, as I had to work slowly and methodically to achieve the desired level of detail. I was lucky that the technician was so helpful to guide me through the steps I need to take.
After the sculpting was complete, i've started the casting process. This typically involves creating a mould of the mask using a material such as silicone, which can capture even the most intricate details of the clay sculpture. To create the mould, I applied a layer of silicone to the surface of the clay, carefully working it into all the nooks and crannies of the sculpture. Once this layer has dried, I've added additional layers of silicone to create a thick, durable mould.
