I've been thinking for a long time to find a way to protect my collages from external factors and I discovered the power of resin in an online tutorial. It lasts forever! Had to try it, so I booked a few hours in the Mold and Ceramics studio at uni and asked the technician to assist me in my first trial.
I'm not very good at measuring the materials I'm using, so this definitely was a worry in my head.
The steps I followed are:
-determine how much epoxy resin you'll need
-accurately measure both resin and hardener, usually it's 1:1 ratio (measured by volume)
-mix thoroughly for 3 minutes, scraping the sides and bottom as you stir
I used one of the collages I really liked, which was a mistake, as I managed to ruin it a bit, but this is how you learn. It appears that if the paper is really thin, the back of it comes through when you pour the resin. My cut outs are mostly from magazines and books, so most of them are not very thick, therefore I didn't get the final result I wanted. I must be very careful with these things for future. Although, the resin looks really shiny and attractive, might just stick to Mod Podge as a final layer in the future and use frames.
