27th October and 3rd November, 2022
Had a lot of excitement to be part of this creative exercise with Melanie Jackson, especially when this technique is my cup of tea, but also a curious experiment to work in a group, on a big piece.
However, I got confused with the schedule and missed most of the session, which was upsetting, but I managed to add some of my characters and texts, where I've noticed some empty spaces that "weren't talking". The idea was to create a small art magazine with the help of InDesign with bits that we've created.
Bellow are some bits and pieces I've added on the coloured, fully drawn collage by my colleagues, which looked very chaotic at first, but with very interesting elements and patterns:
On 3rd of November, Melanie introduced us some cartoons from 1908 and 1929: Emile Cohl's Fantasmagorie and the work of Hardeep Pandhal (who's work is delivered via digital animations, drawings, textile work and multimedia installations that confront toxic legacies of an empire). See bellow:
Another artist mentioned was Chitra Ganesh, with whom I resonated more. Chitra's work includes: charcoal drawings, digital collages, films, web projects, photographs, and wall murals.
For another hour we worked on our big collage piece, re-adding more elements or doodling, it worked well in my favour, knowing that i missed the first day. Getting lost in cut-outs, ripping papers and letting my inner child do her thing, I've came out with the bellow, as usually using my main colours of accent - blue, yellow, red and black:
The Art Magazine that we created was called "It is not a crime" and I think it reflects the expectancy of being a perfect individual nowadays.
It is not a crime if people don't understand your art.
It is not a crime if you are your worst Critic sometimes.
It is not a crime if you don't feel valued.
It is not a crime if you don't see the point.
“Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final.” said Rainer Maria Rilke
